In antebellum America, Henry Ward Beecher (yes, related to Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom's Cabin) with the assistence of the New England Immigration Aid Society sent guns to citizens of Kansas as part of his plan in the Kansas-Nebraska Act.
