The Burgundians were a Germanic tribe that settled in the parts of southern France and Switzerland. The French part of the Burgundian kindom is now known as Burgundy.

When the Burgundians came to their land, it was under Roman rule. The Romans (not knowing what else to do with a large number of immigrating barbarians) gave them lands formerly owned by the displaced Vangiones. The Burgundians, apparently happy with their new kingdom, established a capital at Worms (now called Worms). In 534, the Burgundians were conquored by the Franks, but in the following centuries, the Burgunidans regained, and then lost, their independence. It's no small wonder that Burgundy fought against France during the Hundred Years War.
