(an
olympia story)
if one were going to hate
indy rock kids, one could use a calvin johnson (founder of k records) as a template to sum up the reasons why. or maybe just the reason, singular. lots of
indy rock kids have no street cred. far too many are
as indy as they wanna be because their
mind-boggling allowances allow them the luxuries of expansive
thrift store wardrobes and black hair dye and vast, obscure cd collections and tiny, mouldering downtown apartments. as well as
dispensable income to go toward things like shows and the
cheap beer du jour and musical instruments the world would be better off if they never played.
apparently,
k records doesn't make that much money. but calvin has no such problems, being - reputedly - a
little rich boy himself. he lives in a nice big house and has a few
self-indulgent bands and dates younger women.
all these things i have learned from my boss, who is wise because he loves
leopard print, is a
punk, and used to drink at
the reef. this node brought to you by the letter k.
