The London Borough of Camden is in the north of the city, and covers the areas of Hampstead, Gospel Oak, Finchley, Frognal, Kentish Town, St John's Wood, Belsize Park, St Pancras, Holborn and Camden Town. It spans some of the poshest and most expensive areas of London - and some of the slummiest, (see: council estates)which may be why it still has a Labour council.
Camden also is the epicentre of the London (and by extension Englands) 'alternative' music scene. Many of the pubs and clubs in the area double up as venues and on a typical night there might be anything upwards of 20 live bands to go and see, ranging from the sublime to the truly awful. Worthy boozers in this area are plentiful and you'd be surprised if you *didn't* see a member of at least one group you own a record by in most of them. Foremost amongst these would be the Dublin Castle and the infamous Good Mixer.
Haven't read The Informers and Glamorama, please /msg me if you have any more info on Camden references in Ellis' later novels.
