An outstanding work by the religious sociologist H. Richard Niebuhr. He draws upon the scholarship of Ernst Troeltsch to create a model for understanding the relationship between religious groups and the larger culture in which they&are embedded. He uses terms such as "Christ above culture" and "Christ against culture," but his analysis is also interesting when applied to non-Christian communities.
