Possibly the biggest obstacle to Al Gore's election.

By the end of 1999, the electorate was just tired of Bill Clinton. It seemed that ever since his election in 1992, there has always been some sort of issue, scandal or controversy surrounding Bill, his wife, his administration, his past or his penis. This culminated in the whole Monica Lewinsky barrel-o-fun. It got to the point where, love him or hate him, people were just sick of hearing the name "Clinton." Political pundits speculated that this would weaken the Democrats' chances in 2000. If you haven't noticed Bill recently, it's because he agrees and is maintaining a low profile.

I gotta say, I suffer from an acute case of CF. Let's blame the Republicans!

Clinton was betrayed by his former allies, the liberal media. Then again, the media is fickle, very willing to betray their political believes to sell a story. It just happened that the Lewinsky woohah would hurt the Democrats, but it didn't matter to the press, because as a rule, "the penises of important men make good stories". So it goes.

Hence, the Republicans have nothing to do with the media circus, they probably sat through most of it laughing about the fate of the Democrats. The Dems, probably very angry at the media for betraying their little truce pact, shifted the blame from Clinton to the Republicans, accusing them of "mud politics". Ugh. Who got blown in the first place?!?

What Bill is not doing, Hillary is taking over. As I recall, she was quite vocal criticizing the Republican National Convention, talking crap about Cheney and Bush. Hillary, who has played the faithful wife during the Clinton debacles, is now politically sound to make broad generalizations on the conservatives. Everyone is sick of Bill, but nobody is sick of Hillary. Especially the soccer moms.

I not only have a case of Clinton fatigue, I have a case of Clinton hatred.
