Born 16 June 1904, I was better known as a child as the Artful Dodger, a nickname given me by an early teacher, Gregor Samsa. My high school and college contemporaries included Holden Caulfield, Arkady Dolgoruky, Esther Summerson, and Stephen Dedalus. We each of us went our separate ways upon graduation, unfortunately. I spent a lot of time on my own, working on an autobiography I like to call In Search Of Lost Time; I managed to befriend a few people, though, despite my busy writing schedule, who go by the names of Henry Spencer, Tristram Shandy, Joseph Zuckerman, and Sir Denis Eton-Hogg. On 14 April 1981 I died.
