American actress (1914-1996). Born
Mary Leta Dorothy Slaton in
New Orleans,
Louisiana. She was named
Miss New Orleans in 1931. After that, she worked as an
elevator operator in
Chicago, then as a
singer for her first husband's band and as a
radio performer. In 1936, she made her
film debut in "
The Jungle Princess", which helped to kick off a minor
sarong craze because of her on-screen
wardrobe. Her most
popular roles were in the
Bob Hope and
Bing Crosby "Road to ..." movies, like "
The Road to Singapore", "
The Road to Zanzibar", "
The Road to Morocco", "
The Road to Utopia", and "
The Road to Bali", where she usually played the
femme fatale. Her last
movie was "
Creepshow 2", where she played an old woman who got murdered in the
Wooden Indian story. She died in September 1996 in
Los Angeles, of
undisclosed causes...
