Edie Brickell started her music career in 1985 when she was at Southern Methodist University, was drinking in a bar, and got up on stage to sing with The New Bohemians. Edie wrote most of the songs the band played - they had a folky, alternative sound. Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars, Edie's and the band's first album, was a big hit, mostly due to the single "What I Am", but they suffered from a serious case of the sophmore slumps with Ghost of a Dog. The band broke up shortly thereafter.

Brickell married Paul Simon; they have a child.
Brickell released a solo album in 1994.

Probably the reason Paul Simon only releases one album every seven years these days. Of course, if I was a fifty year old guy married to Edie Brickell, I'd want to stay in bed all day too...
