After Piers Anthony wrote what he thought was the last book in the Incarnations of Immortality series, the response was strong enough for him to write the books for the incarnations of Evil and Good. "For Love of Evil" was the first of these two.

It deals with Parry, a promising wizard's apprentice in the middles ages of Anthony's alternate universe. He loses much of what is dear to him, and eventually becomes a righteous but feared inquisitor.

Parry eventually becomes the incarnation of Evil. It's a good tale, full of temptation and redemption, and it ultimately leads you to sympathize with Satan. It also offers a unique perspective on the events of the first five books, as well.

All in all, my second favorite book in the series.
