Humanities Software was started in 1986, writing software for DOS. Located in Hood River, Oregon, it is one of the largest publishers of educational software for primary and secondary students. Their products are ported for both Macintosh and Windows machines. Most of the software is written for both Spanish and English speakers. As the name implies, they write humanities software, leaving the science and math to other companies. Humanities contracts out with small companies or freelancers for multimedia production and and some user interface design work. This allows the specialized projects to go to the freelancer with the most approprate skill set. Programming, manuals, and sales are done in-house. They are located next to Full Sail Brewery in Hood River, Oregon.
