A
valley and not-quite-independent country in the western
Himalayas, being part of the Northern Areas in
Pakistani-administered
Azad Kashmir. The people of Hunza are called
Hunzakuts. It is notable for three things.
1. The folk have a reputation for living to an enormous age and thanking their fresh air and yoghurt for it.
2. In the centre is the Burusho valley, where the people speak Burushaski, a language unlike anything else anywhere on earth.
3. There is a thing called a Hunza apricot, a dark, hard, shrivelled thing I haven't yet dared to try.
