i was surprised at how easily the needles slipped in
a half hour of pushing and pulling
surprise again at how easily the tooth came out
surprise also at the blood on the latex

we thanked each other, made arrangements to meet again
then I was wandering numb, waiting for the hurt to set in.

a part of me gone forever
it wasn't painful
but it hurt like a fuck
