Clichéd metaphors, angst and pretty descriptions are a dime a dozen. The first thing that comes out of your head isn't always the best, however, and when you're caught up in the emotion which you're channeling through your writing, you tend to write some corny nonsense.

I can write poetry
about delicious black burning fires
and the futility of emotion
beauty and silent death

oh, please,
keep me safe
from taking bad advice
and giving it
and most of all
writing bad poetry and not recognizing it

I'm willing to try...but not very hard.

sand through hourglass
shedding bitter tears
chill wind on willows
dog says 'arf'
