In June of 2001, the
Coca-Cola Company released into circulation a updated version of the late Mr.Pibb. It made its first appearence in several Texan locations including Houston (home of
30 Foot Fall) and Dallas (home of the
Cowboys). Currently, many states have been converted to Pibb Xtra.
Pibb Xtra, as it has been designated, is not a diet drink. It doesn't contain different levels of sugar or caffeine compared to its predecessor. It is supposedly a new flavor. I have yet to confirm this, because it's next to impossible for one to obtain a sample of good old Mr.Pibb. The decsion wheather to make the switch is to be made by each individual bottling company, though according to the Coca-Cola Company, Pibb Xtra will be replacing Mr.Pibb across the U.S. in 2002.
According to the Coca-Cola Company, "In 2001, Pibb Xtra was introduced in Houston and Dallas with an intense flavor kick – a bolder version of the original taste. Its bold taste and graphics appeal to young adults who are looking to get the most out of life and the most out of their soft drink."
Pibb Xtra is available in 12oz aluminum cans (singles, 4-packs, 12-packs and 15-packs), .5 liter plastic bottles (6-packs), 20oz plastic bottles, 1 liter plastic bottles and 2 liter plastic bottles.
