An oratorio written by P.D.Q. Bach, supposedly evidence of a Greek civiliation in what is now Texas: a town named Thebes Gulch.

Peter Schickele was kicked out of the American Musicological Junta for publishing this "newly discovered" work on the grounds that there was advertising within. This is true; the finale contains the phrase "Drink Pepsi".

There is a significant French horn solo in this piece. At the beginning, the hornist begins with only a mouthpiece, then assembles the horn section by section throughout the oratorio.

There are plenty of musical and verbal puns in this work. Bach blends his father's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring with the classic American tune The Eyes of Texas. Oedipus' mother is Billie Jo Casta, the queen of the rodeo.
