Small
city (round about 150000
residents) in
Germany. It lies in the southwest of
Berlin.
It was founded in
993 and was built by
Friedrich Wilhelm I. to be his residence. He and his successors built the
Neues Palais(
1769), the castle and the park of
Sans Souci(
1747) and the castle Charlottenhof (
1828). At the park of Sans Souci and facing the Neues Palais is the
University of Potsdam (a small university, which I attend).
If you ever visit Germany and come to Berlin, be sure to visit Potsdam (especially the park of Sans Souci, where most of the old castles lie).
Addition: The city is also famous for the Potsdam Conference during which the treatment of the countries that were defeated (especially Germany) was decided.
