QDesign Corporation makes audio compression products, and are based in Vancouver,
Canada (home to many fine software companies). Their CODECs are incorporated into Apple's Quicktime architecture. QDesign CODECs for voice and music are, in my opinion, much better than most compression schemes in use today, particularly Mpeg audio layer III, offering high quality at low bitrates.
