Big ex-country in Africa, named after Cecil Rhodes, the great anthropologist and diamond prospector. Unusually, he was revered and respected by the natives because he treated them like human beings, unlike any previous white men in the region. Capital city was Salisbury.
It's now called Zimbabwe, having gained independence, and currently (09-10-2000) ruled by Robert Mugabe. |
