The original commander of the USS Enterprise in Gene Roddenberry's "Star Trek" pilot script. Of course by the time it got to air, his name had become Christopher Pike.

Having the mythos that it does, the character has resurfaced several times in Star Trek intellectual property, including video games, comic books, and novelizations. His most prominent appearance was on the animated series (voiced by James Doohan aka Scotty), where he is portrayed as an elder commodore of Starfleet. When the Enterprise is dragged through a supernova into a negative universe where time flows backwards, April must save the rest of the crew who have become children once again.
