Something to sing about is the song that is sung at the climax of the plotline of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode, Once More, With Feeling (season 7, episode 6). The song is sung when Buffy finally faces up against the singing demon, Sweet.
In the song, Buffy attempts to describe once more the disconnect that she has felt since being resurrected, a theme she explored in the first song of the episode, Going Through the Motions. This time however her friends are present for the sung sentiment, and it is revealed to them that she had been in heaven before she was resurrected.
There was no pain
No fear, no doubt
'Til they pulled me out of heaven
So that's my refrain
I live in hell
'Cause I've been expelled from heaven
I think I was in heaven
However, before she can burst into flame due to Sweet's influence (the demon causes people to dance so hard that they spontaneously combust), she is rescued by Spike, who is feeling both guilty and angry after his musical number, Rest in Peace. Spike's coda to the song indicates how Buffy should progress if she wants to heal herself from the emotional trauma of being resurrected.
Life's not a song
Life isn't bliss
Life is just this: it's living
You'll get along
The pain that you feel
You only can heal by living
You have to go on living
So one of us is living
Musically, this is to me one of the weaker songs of the episode. The tune isn't especially catchy, and although the lyrics are decent, and advance the plot, they're not as inspired as most of the other songs. This is unfortunate, due to the song's plot-critical position. However, the weak music is brought up by excellent performances by the cast, who manage to generate some good audience empathy even while singing sometimes silly songs. In the context of the whole episode, the song works. Though not, perhaps, as well as would have been expected.
