TBO = Time Before Overhaul
Usually in reference to aircraft engines, this is one factor in deciding to buy a used aircraft as engine overhauls can cost $10,000 or more here in the US. I imagine the cost is similar elsewhere in the world.
Most aircraft engines have a recommended time before overhaul of 1,800 - 2,000 hours of operation, and is assigned by the engine manufacturer.
