International nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of invertebrates, primarily arachnids and insects. Named after the Xerces Blue butterfly, the first butterfly in North America to become extinct at the hands of human development, the Xerces (pronounced ZUHR-sees) society, founded 1971, makes regular publications to inform those who make environmental policy decisions of the invaluable role of invertebrates in our global ecology.
