| The United Paramount Network - An American broadcast television network. After the Fox network shook up the big three (NBC, CBS, ABC), two other studios tried to join in the fun.
Warner Brothers started their WB network, and Paramount Pictures started the UPN network.
It could be argued that UPN would never have survived their first year if it weren't for their killer-app of sorts: Star Trek. Paramount owns the Star Trek family, and so when they started their own network, they took their programming with them.
People desperate to see the, then new, Voyager series demanded that UPN be shown in their market. After Voyager lost its appeal, UPN struggled to find new programming.
Currently, they seem to be still lacking good programming, though they are making inroads with edgy animation and WWF audiences. |
