According to its website, the ecclesiastic schools Bologna became a true university in 1088 CE, when it began to offer a degree in law based on Roman Law. The university still exists today, and its website can be viewed at www.unibo.it in Italian, or www.unibo.it/avl/english/default2.htm in English.
