A chain store for buying "subversive" clothing. Started as a hippie head shop called the Free People's Store, over by the University of Pennsylvania in 1970, they grew into a Philadelphia-based chain with annual sales of up to $110 million, by merchandising underground fashion trends to the tragically hip, or not so hip.
