Won Hyo is the fourth pattern learnt for the ITF style of Tae Kwon Do, and it is therefore, along with all previous patterns, required for the fifth grading, promotion from green belt (6th kup) to blue tags (5th kup).

The definition of the pattern is as follows: "Won Hyo is the noted monk who introduced Buddhism to the Silla Dynasty in the year 686 AD."

This pattern has twenty eight moves, and begins and ends in a different stance to all other patterns so far, close ready stance A, as opposed to parallel ready stance. The pattern also introduces a number of new techniques. It is the first pattern to include a posture, and the powerful side piercing kick and reverse punch. The movements for the pattern, and its diagram, may be found at http://www.itf-information.com/sub0404.htm.
