A theatric device in which an actor directly addresses the audience, with humorous effect. The other stageplayers aren't supposed to notice this direct discourse -- indeed, the humor is often enhanced by the fact that the other players don't even know there's an audience to address directly, thus creating a sort of bond with the aside character and the audience.
