direct-to-video

A method of releasing a production. Most often used by Disney; this simply implies that there is no theatrical release and that the production is only available on home video. Direct-to-video productions tend to be of lower quality and lower budget than theatrical productions, and in Disney's case, are generally handled by their Television Animation Department.
