Chemical reaction in which energy is released. Also called exothermic when the energy released is in the form of heat (which as far as I know is always). Often coupled with an endergonic reaction in an oxidation-reduction reaction. The hydrolysis of ATP with the use of an enzyme is very exergonic, which is why the human body uses ATP as a source of energy.
