The Laz'ish name of the fish from the 'engraulis ringens' family whose natural habitat is the Black Sea.

These little fish look like anchovies. When cooked properly, its tiny bones can be eaten with no harm.

The Laz don't ever see it as a fish. For them, hamsi is something sent to them by God. When you go to a restaurant in Black Sea region, Turkey, it is expectable for the waiter to say: "What would you like to eat? Fish or Hamsi?"
