Human effort is the energy expended through muscles contracting or neurons firing when people do something.

The movie The Matrix puts an interesting spin on this: best summed up by the scene where one character refers to another as "Copper-top" (as in Duracelltm batteries). One might wonder if life is nothing more than the sum of one's efforts.
