An Expansion for the TCG Magic: The Gathering which started the Invasion Cycle of cards, released in October 2000 and causing the Urza's block (Urza's Saga, Urza's Legacy and Urza's Destiny) to rotate out of the Type 2 card pool and was itself rotated by Onslaught block. Its Prerelease card, Kavu Furens (Raging Kavu in english), was the first to be printed in a dead language - in this case, latin.

The Invasion Cycle reintroduced gold cards, with Invasion featuring cards of two allied colours (RG / GW / WU / UB and BR), 5 Dragon Legends of 3 allied colours each (reminiscent of the elder dragon legends), and the 5 colour Coalition Victory, which created a new way to win the game. This focus on colour marked the first "supertheme" - a block-wide focus on a previously minor attribute and proved very successful in refreshing the game, drawing in new players and rekindling enthusiasm in those who had endured the degenerate combos of Urza's block. Invasion sought to slow the game down and move into an era of big, splashy effects, such as the dragons which were initially mocked as unplayable whilst people continued to assess cards by older, faster standards.

The new mechanics introduced for invasion were Kicker, which allowed for spells to be enhanced by paying an additional Mana cost; and Domain, which caused spells to be more effective depending on the number of basic lands a player controlled when the spell was cast. To completely confuse players, Split cards were introduced for the first time- two cards in miniature on a single magic card, an idea developed for the (shelved) Unglued 2 that was also used in the Apocalypse expansion. One of the sub-mechanics of Invasion, the so-called "divvy" cards, yielded the most influential card of the set, Fact Or Fiction, which eventually had to be restricted in the powerhouse of formats, Type 1. (Interestingly, the other divvy cards made no impact at all.)

Continuing the trend set by the Mercadian Masques expansion, this base set featured basic land with a single mana symbol rather than a line of rules text, in the style first intoduced by Portal cards. Invasion also featured foil (premium) cards of each each card in the set.

The block started by Invasion is completed by the expansions Planeshift and Apocalypse.

The sixth stand-alone expansion set for Magic: The Gathering, Invasion, was released on October 2, 2000. The symbol was sort of in the shape of a kite, with a small circle at the top, and an inverted cross below it. The symbol is black on common cards, silver on uncommons, and gold on rares. There was a total of 350 cards, and all of the cards were also available in rarer foil versions.
