Ogre was one of the first games published in 1977 by Metagaming Concepts , the ground breaking company who first coined the term microgame. Ogre was soon followed up by GEV, which focused more on the smaller non Ogre units in the game.

Ogre was brought over to a new game company named after its founder Steve Jackson where it has see it rereleased several times, made into a minatures version, a book, a GURPS module, expanded upon in shockwave and has gathered around it a loyal fan base who have expanded the game with new maps, variants and scenerios.
