(Salmo gairdnerii) A very common fish in my native Oregon, this fish is excellent table fare. Prefers cold water, and requires moving water to mate. Silvery body, with a bright red side stripe, and a dark back. Adults can reach over 20 pounds. Some rainbow trout swim out to ocean, returning every other year to mate, but are then called steelhead. A favorite food of Osprey.
