Section of a paper or article in some academic disciplines. Basically, it is a discussion of other research on the topic, with some criticality. Useful to see if the writers know what they're talking about, to find where the current thinking is, and to find recommended works for further reading (rather than digging through the bilbiography). May or may not be formally titled "Review of the Literature."
