(Ice) hockey: A stick infraction penalty called when a player swings his or her hockey stick at an opponent with intent to injure. A slashing penalty may be called whether contact is made or not.

Slashing is a minor penalty. If serious injury is caused or blood is drawn, a major penalty and a game misconduct result.
