In film terminology, a tracking shot is a film sequence where the camera is mounted on a dolly and follows a moving object by moving along a track of rails laid out like a small railway line, (the 'dolly track').

To illustrate this: Imagine walking along the street, keeping your eye on somebody walking in the same direction on the opposite side.
