daemon which is responsible for interpreting
http requests and responding appropriately. In most cases, this means transmitting an
HTML page (which may have been loaded from a
static file or generated
dynamically from a
CGI script.
The most common web server is Apache, closely followed by Microsoft's IIS and Netscape's Enterprise Server.
