Words are cheap,
but silence is a steal.
Walk outside with me and listen for it
the absence of traffic
the lack of background noise

Sit down on these frigid steps
close your eyes and inhale
taste the woodsmoke

Words, especially holiday words
are cheap- a dime a dozen,
but this pre-dawn stillness is priceless
worth the cold, worth the time
something to savor.
