On E2 a writeup is the text of an individual user's contribution to a node. What you are reading right now is Virgil's writeup for the node titled "writeup." A user can contribute one writeup to any given node. If you haven't yet submitted a writeup to a node you'll see a blank text box below all of the other writeups with a pull-down menu for writeup types.

If you're a new user here please read the Everything2 Help, link and link and the perfect node before attempting the following.

To submit a writeup simply fill your text into the box, select the most relevant 'writeup type' button and choose 'Create draft'. You may then preview your writing for any changes. Make sure your hard links are properly formatted and spelled correctly and your HTML looks the way you want it to. Then just cut and paste your text over into the proper node. When you choose to 'Publish' your draft it will be displayed in the "new writeups" section of the nodelets after a few minutes. Other users who are second level or higher will be able to vote your writeup up or down, C! your writeup or, possibly, delete it. To avoid that nasty bit about deletion follow the advice in Everything2 Help and other links provided.

There is a character limit of 64k for any given writeup.
