<Dimview> It's a site for reading, writing, goofing, yelling, writing, having hissy fits, reading, cuddling...
<Dimview> Did I mention writing?
<Dimview> I did.

<fairyplain> e2 sucks, the higher you are the more you suck

Hi. I'm Rapscallion, but if you're here you know that already. I node albums and bands mostly, although I occasionally write up a piece of Internet culture, and I've got some poetry and fiction scattered here and there. I tend to get enthusiastic about Quests, and try to participate in as many as possible. I like when e2 makes a group effort.

I think e2 needs more messaging. Even if it's a simple, "hey, I know about that thing. Awesome!" message, I'd like to read it. That's how people connect. I thank people when they C! my work, too, though I don't expect everyone to do the same. I upvote factuals when they are factual, and fiction/daylogs when they are entertaining or interesting. When voting on poetry, I go with my gut. Most of my downvotes go to poetry or fiction that didn't strike a chord in me, or factuals that I feel don't tell enough or have been superceded. If I can't decide on an up- or downvote, I'll /msg a suggestion to the author to make my decision easier.

I manage to stay off Ascorbic.net's catbox Hall of Shame for most of the time, but I've had my name there a few times and I'm in the catbox often enough, so I'll see you around.

Rapscallion Recommends...
This is a list of some of my favourite writeups or nodes. Many of these have been C!ed by me, but I feel all of them deserve some more recognition and exposure. Some are more popular than others and not all of them need any more exposure, but the nodes listed here still serve as excellent examples of what I like to see on e2. This is a work in progress.

catch the bus
by Aerobe
Eerie, sad, and somehow a bit cute. Aerobe exposes a bizarre subculture that lives on Usenet: alt.suicide.holiday. If you find the concept of suicide or internet cliques at all interesting, I advise you to read this node.

The New York Magician series
by The Custodian
Not a single node, but an ongoing series. The New York Magician stories are some of my favourite pieces of fiction on the site. Fans of The Dresden Files and American Gods are urged to check it out. The link above leads to the first story in the series.

The Machine in The Ghost
by Simulacron3
Sim3's ongoing exploration into the mind and the brain. These nodes attempt to, in the author's words, "establish a context for individual aspects of mind such as perception, consciousness, learning, " etc. What motivates people? How do we interact with the environment? What does the brain do? Simulacron3 aims to formulate a theory of brain, and this is a good start, not to mention a great read.

Noder Fragments
by raincomplex
raincomplex contacted me and more than a dozen other noders inviting us to contribute to a collaborative project. We had a small box template to copy to our scratchpads and fill with whatever text we wanted. raincomplex went around collecting them, and assembled the boxes into a grid-like structure in the node Noder Fragments. The result is there to see, and the invitation still stands to anyone wishing to join it. raincomplex is currently working on another, more elaborate collaboration, and hopefully this marks the beginning of a new approach to noding.

How to Say I Love You, with Bombastic Inefficiency
by Spifficus Rex
A long poem and a journal of sorts, detailing Spiff's bus trip from Arizona to Saskatchewan to see his girlfriend. It's filled with the best of the idiosyncratic thoughts and observations that make Spifficus' poetry worth reading and laughing at.

Sumo Primer and Sumo
by Dimview
I've listed two here, but only because I thought listing about seventy would be a little ridiculous. Dimview has contributed a lot of sumo-related knowledge to e2 over the years, from sumotori profiles to kimarite explanations, and has helpfully linked everything together quite well. If you are interested in or curious about sumo, both the primer and the title node do a great job of introducing both the sport and the many nodes about it. "Sumo" is a beginner's guide to the universe of sumo wrestling, and the "Sumo Primer" is a more personal look at Dimmie's experiences and fascination with it.

Fine Structure
by sam512
I feel like I was maybe the last one on this site to discover these stories. Like many of my picks, this doesn't represent one node, but rather many parts of a fantastic series. I read the Ed Stories a few months before starting this series, and I mean no offense to that one when I say Fine Structure blows it out of the water. Ed Stories was good, but sam512 has improved considerably in all capacities since writing them, and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase Fine Structure in a bookstore. I now count myself among those who eagerly await the next installment.

The girls avoid band inflicted neck hickeys
by iceowl
Here's another fiction series, this time by iceowl. One of these nodes is the source of the popular e2 description, the "headless death cult of writer apostles," and judging by the familiarity of that phrase and the number of C!s on each writeup, it's clear that iceowl needs little introduction. Reread these.
