The stately home of Knebworth House in
Hertfordshire,
England has hosted Rock's elite since 1974, when The Allman Brothers Band attracted 60,000. Since then, it has been the scene of outdoor extravaganzas featuring
Pink Floyd (1975, 1990),
The Rolling Stones (1976), Genesis (1978, 1992), Frank Zappa (1978), Led Zeppelin (1979), The Beach Boys (1980), Cliff Richard (1983, 1990), Deep Purple (1985), Queen (1986- their final show), Elton John (1990) and Paul McCartney (1990).
In 1996, The Charlatans, Kula Shaker, Manic Street Preachers, Ocean Colour Scene and Prodigy supported Oasis at two shows with a combined audience of over 250,000- confirming Oasis as Britain's brightest stars and Knebworth owners Lord and Lady Cobbold as England's hippest aristocrats.
