Basic Information

Colton Grundy is the long-awaited third album by Psychopathic Records rapper Blaze Ya Dead Homie. It was released on October 19, 2004, a full 3 years after his last album, 1 Less G In Da Hood. The album was much delayed but was well worth the wait, as it is considered by many to be his best to date. This album was also the first rap I ever got into, which is why I wanted to make this node.

Tracks

Here I'll describe each track, give my opinion, and give it a score out of *****. I'll also put in 3-4 lines to give an idea of the lyrics.

Track 1: Bump This Shit- **. It's okay. Not really the best opening. The beat is cool but the lyrics aren't that great. The song is about how everyone has a different opinion on music and he doesn't care what you think.

So don’t tell me what to listen to, or tell me what to like
Don’t tell me that it's banging off the hook and hella tight
Your opinion matters to you (come again?)
Your opinion matters to you (okay)

Track 2: Touch of Death- ****. Really good. The beat is fast and the lyrics are great. Blaze tells his story about being a dead man.

I’ve been alive for many centuries
Watched new kings replace old kings
Seen empires overthrown with war
Disease and sickness, for rich or poor

Track 3: Shotgun- *****. This was the first song by Blaze I ever heard. The song features Anybody Killa and the godfather of Acid Rap, Esham, who really stand out. It's just a really good, thugged-out, heavy-bass rap.

(Esham)
Sawed off shotgun and I’m about to dump
Sippin' on some syrup, speakers on bump
Cruising down 7 mile, cash bed of pile
You think my shotgun won’t blast, bat a thou-

Track 4: Etched Out- ***. Not bad. Not really on par with some of the other songs, though it does have a couple really good lines.

I'm for certain, this sucker right here
Gonna die like a bitch motherfucka right here
Get that ass chalked up, I’ma trace you
Pull out the twelve gauge pencil, and erase you

Track 5: If I Fall- ***. Another decent song. Tells the story about how Blaze was shot and killed. Features Lavel and Jamie Madrox of Twiztid.

I’m not afraid to fall, I fell, got up
Kept moving while my body repeatedly got shot up
I even tried to stand up
After taking a the clip and a half from a bitch-ass rocking a ski mask

Track 6: Hey You- **. Decent. This song always felt a little bit weak to me. I don't like the chorus and the beat annoys me. The song is about Blaze picking up hookers.

Hey love, do them titties got a name
This is dead body game let me see you shakin' something
I ain’t impressed by hoes with attitudes
I’m impressed by the way them hoes is mad at you

Track 7: Out Tha Gate- *. I've heard a lot of people say really good things about this song but I really don't like it. It kind of sounds amateur to me, not as good as Blaze can do.

But that’s just life, shuffle the cards and deal
And the wheels'll keep spinnin'
Ho’s keep catching too many feelin's
And too many men are turning into women

Track 8: Stick Ya Hands Up- *****. This song remains my favorite on the album and possibly my favorite Blaze song ever. It was satisfying to find a song this good amid a bit of a dry spell in the middle of this album.

So if you get in my way, we got beef, and I’ma gut you like a fish with my razor sharp teeth
I’m a pit-bull without a muzzle, held down by the Psychopathic family (Family!)
Checkmate motherfucker, this is Colton,
turn your body into dust where you standing

Track 9: Further From Truth- *. Same thing as #7. I just don't like the song. The chorus is boring and the lyrics are a bit uninspired.

A beautiful bowl of spread with lilies and orchids
A mortician playing your song upon the organ
I’ll smash in your casket in with a sledgehammer
At this point now the anger is all that really matters

Track 10: Days of My Neighborhood- ****. Another really good song. I love the lyrics and the song is always stuck in my head. Only problem is that it's a bit short.

Hey now player, it’s all right, stop speaking my name
Unless you’re looking to fight
I ain’t looking to battle rap with you
I’m looking to unload my gat and bust a cap in you

Track 11: Bump It Up- ****. Also very good. The chorus and beat are really catchy. But just like Track 10, this song is a bit on the short side. This song is about Blaze picking up a girl in a bar.

I'm in the car, to the door, in the bar, to the dance floor
Lookin' for the ladies, with the wiggle galore
I see you movin' like a snake, rhythm huggin' your curves
Shakin like ain't nobody shakin' better than her

Track 12: Mr. Dead Folx- *****. Violent J of the Insane Clown Posse and Blaze collaborate on what is a great, pure gangsta rap song. Violent J's verse really stands out.

Rappin' with Twiztid and the clowns, kicking the gangsta sounds
Strictly keep it underground
Lotus and the family, you now how we do
Coming for ours and won’t hesitate to ride on you

Track 13: 2 Many Bitches- ****. Another great Blaze/Anybody Killa song. They are definitely my favorite rap duo. Hard to describe this song but it's a catchy tune about how many girls Blaze and ABK have.

(Anybody Killa)
Hey bitch where your girls at?
Tell them grab they shit, and meet me in the back
I’m about to put them in a new situation
Life of luxury, you, your girls and me

Track 14: Timeline- **. I don't really like this song too much. Can't really say why but I don't like the chorus. A lot of people love this song though.

Solomon was the father, the casketmaker
In 1920 something, he was the undertaker
Who outlived everyone until the day he tried to die
And jumped in the freezing water so starts the timeline

Track 15: Climbing- ***. I would have given this song ****, but the chorus, which is cool at first, gets old quickly. It does have a lot of great guests. Esham, Violent J, and Jamie Madrox return, and the other member of Twiztid, Monoxide makes an appearance. I was kind of hoping that the other member of ICP, Shaggy 2 Dope, would appear, or that Anybody Killa would show up for a last rap. Neither did, but you can hear Shaggy in the chorus.

My stocks are moving, ain’t worried what others doing
Make my own path to the top and it won’t stop
I’m a grown man doing what a grown man does
Taking all you suckas back to school, so pack a lunch
