This Bavarian breed (evidently it is pronounced gelp-fee) is a fairly standard type of beef cattle, producing good meat in a decent variety of climates.

It has short horns and its coat can be any color from yellow to black, although the former is a bit more common.

It also offers ranchers a moderately high feed-to-meat conversion rate, using relatively little food to grow to full size.
