Julie Gold is best known as the author of the 1990 Grammy Song of the Year, "From a Distance." However, she is author of many other songs, including many that have been covered by artists including Bette Midler, Nanci Griffith and Patti Lupone.

A Philadelphia native, she graduated from Temple University in the 1970s, then went to to New York City to become a star. She has always been popular among those who have heard her, but it wasn't until Midler belted out "From A Distance" that Gold became well-known.
