Mayor of Albuquerque from 1993 to 1997. Probably the best mayor ever, with incredibly-high approval ratings, but he got a bit big for his britches and decided to resign from office so he could pursue the post of Governor. He worked hard to beautify the city, reduce crime and gang activity, laid the groundwork for many policies which made it difficult for youths to get spray paint (thus cutting down greatly on graffiti), and managed to vastly cut down on wasted water and increase school funding. His ill-fated governor campaign site (he lost to the Republican, yet almost Libertarian, incumbent Gary Johnson) is at http://martinchavez98.org.
