APUD is an acronym for "Amine Precursor Uptake and Decarboxylation". APUD cells are a group of various peptide-secreting glandular cells in the diffuse endocrine system and are found throughout the body's digestive tract. These cells make a number of polypeptide hormones such as serotonin, epinephrine, dopamine, neurotensin, and norepinephrine.
