Also known locally as Pulau Pinang, Penang is one of the states of Malaysia. It is located on the West coast of West Malaysia, next to the state of Kedah.
The state of Penang consists of Penang island and the mainland area of Butterworth (and surrounding areas). The main town in Penang is Georgetown. Penang island is connected to the mainland by the Penang Bridge.
With great, cheap food and nice beaches, Penang island has heaps of tourist traps, hotels and beach resorts. Also one of the few places in Malaysia where the Chinese are the majority ethnic group. |
