Just a small slice of heavenly goodness, the ice cream sandwich is a frozen parallelpiped of ice cream, usually vanilla, surrounded on two sides (very sandwich-like) by a damp, chocolately wafer-like exterior. A bit like a sports bar, but the exterior isn't crunchy, and it isn't surrounded on all sides by chocolate.
